What a big surprise this merlot turned out to be! Sweet, fruity aromas of blueberry, cherry and strawberry with a vanilla French oak finish best describes this wine. It's smooth and super rich without being too heavy on the palette. Smoking Loon is a medium-bodied merlot that is rich without being too heavy -- its flavors last just long enough to enjoy. In my opinion, it's definitely a versatile wine that can be served with a crusty bread and sweet fruit preserves as well as accompany chicken and pork chops (quite nicely I might add)!
When I first tasted the Smoking Loon Merlot, I had no idea the price of the bottle was only $7.99! I imagined that it would have cost a lot more...needless to say this was a good find and a great bottle of wine for under $20!
